Give a Beat & Soul Clap Records are proud to announce “Insides Outed”. An album recorded entirely in solitary confinement by WayOfLife AKA Russell Wardlow; a prolific poet, speaker, creative and father of 2 boys. After being incarcerated for 10 years, Russell is finally coming home.

He’s used this time to build a burgeoning music career, recording his work over the phone—and often with challenges. Background disruptions and prison cell noise led to poor audio recordings and often unusable material. When his prison facility faced a COVID outbreak, Russell and his peers were forced to stay in solitary confinement. Making the most out of that undesirable situation, Russell used the total silence of his cell to capture his artistry. With permission, he manually recorded his writings, poetry, and raps on the phone over two weeks, accumulating a wealth of music and adopting the moniker WayOfLife.

The initial demos Russell delivered to our very own Eli Soul Clap included his vocals on top of free-to-license beats Russell found on the internet. Now in reproduction by Taylor Bense, the new music holds the essence and emotion behind Russell’s originals. “Insides Outed” marks WayOfLife’s debut release, and our pursuit here is to ensure it is the first of many.

Upon his release, Russell's mission is to create a career out of his music in order to support himself, his 2 little boys and have the ability to empower other people impacted by incarceration. Our team has partnered up with non-profit music and social justice organization Give a Beat to initiate a resource gathering campaign to cover Russell’s basic needs. With the link below, labeled: Russell's Reentry Project' you can pitch in to help with rent, groceries, clothing, cell phone, and more so he can focus on making music and creating a prosperous life for himself and his family
